Homemade Turkey Chili

This is a very simple and hearty chili with plenty of flavor, that’s even better the second day. Have as the main dish, or as a side.

This recipe has suggestions for pre-made chili seasoning or homemade. Homemade will be healthier due to having less sodium, but you can use the pre-make chili packets (like shown below) for convenience when needed.

Prep time: 15 mins  I  Cook time: 45 mins I Total time: 60 mins  I Makes 6 servings

  • 1.5 tsp olive oil
  • 1.5 lb ground turkey
  • 1 can 796 ml crushed tomato
  • 1 can (540ml) kidney beans – drained, rinsed and mashed
  • Pre-made chili packet, or (my recommendation): 2 tbsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper, 1/2 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp ground black pepper, 1 tbsp (2 cloves) minced garlic, 1 medium chopped onion
  • 1 cup water

Substitutions:

  • Can use Black beans instead Kidney beans
  • Instead of crushed tomatoes can also use whole tomatoes

Notes about recipe:

  • You can serve this with shredded cheddar cheese (or lowfat cheddar cheese) and sour cream (or plain greek yogurt or low-fat sour cream).
